Fraudulent text message scam targeting Westfield Bank debit cardholders

Safeguarding your account and its associated information is important to us. We have become aware of a scam involving Westfield Bank debit cardholders and fraudulent text and phone calls that appear to be initiated by Westfield Bank. These calls and text messages are falsely originating from our Customer Resource Center phone number: 800.368.8930 making them appear legitimate.

Cardholders are contacted via text message and then by phone from an individual purported to be with our Westfield Bank Security Department. Each instance starts with a text message asking the customer to confirm a point of sale (POS) transaction. Within minutes of replying “No,” customers are receiving a phone call purportedly from Westfield Bank asking again about the POS transaction that was texted to them. The fraudsters then advise the customer they need to recalibrate our fraud system and that they will be sending another text to their phone and to reply “Yes” to the text.

The fraudster then asks to verify their debit card PIN and the last 11 digits of their card. After this information is provided, the fraudsters are then able to conduct contactless debit card purchases.

Remember
Westfield Bank nor Fiserv (our third-party debit card monitoring service) will ever ask for your PIN or to verify your PIN. Westfield Bank will never contact you via email, text, or phone to request personal information, your account number, password, or other sensitive information.
